IP video solutions are a flexible and highly effective choice for any building security system.
An IP video solution is essentially based on Ethernet cabling as opposed to the standard coaxial wiring. These systems typically involve dedicated networks due to the high bandwidth requirements but can be installed on existing infrastructure. IP cameras come both fixed and moveable and are easily configured through software. Furthermore, IP cameras can be easily decoded at multiple locations with either hardware or software which gives added flexibility when designing a surveillance system. This method of monitoring a facility, which transmits video typically through a dedicated Ethernet network, allows a company to relocate their cameras as they see fit, finding the most effective security system possible. Many of these cameras also utilize PoE (Power over Ethernet) which allows for the use of a distributed video network of cameras.
Megapixel cameras offer tremendous benefits over traditional coaxial based cameras. These IP megapixel cameras are able to offer video resolution that is up to 5 times greater than traditional digital cameras. These megapixel cameras are also great for outdoor camera surveillance locations. Megapixel cameras allow for digital zoom after the video is stored onto hard drives. Because Megapixel cameras offer superior digital zoom they eliminate the need for traditional Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ) cameras in most cases. Because of the high definition resolution of the cameras they are able to view wider areas and provide better detail for after the fact assessment of the recorded video. Network Video Recorders or NVRs are software based digital video recorders that take the video from the IP cameras and store it on hard drives. They are also responsible for delivering live and recorded video to the end user. A network video recorder has no coaxial video inputs on the back of the recorder. The recorder typically has two network ports. One is used for the streaming video that is being recorded to the hard drives and the second is used to connect to the company's local area network (LAN) to provide video to the locations that require viewing the video streams. Network Video Recorders can be appliance based or simple software that is licensed and is installed on any computer or server.
