Digital Video Recorder:
A digital video recorder or DVR is a computer that is used to compress and store video digitally onto hard drives. The video from the cameras can then be viewed live or playback through the DVR or over a wide or local area network. The digital video recorders can be set up to record in a variety of methods. Typically DVR's record video when motion is detected and will record up to 60 seconds of pre-motion, the motion itself, and up to 60 seconds of post-alarm motion. DVR's can also be set up to record continuous video although this tends to require large amounts of hard drive storage.
